After working with Houdini for a few weeks and solidifying some of the basics, I have moved on to some more complex tutorials. In the theme of modeling plants, I chose a tutorial of a fern which proved quite useful. I learned a lot about how custom geometry objects are linked and can be modified. In essence the fern is just leaves placed on a stem, then placed on a larger stem, rotated around a circle; however, the use of slight variations in the length and bend of the leaves makes a decently convincing fern.
Although there are issues with the leaves intersecting, this was a good exercise in using Houdini and exploring how random variations in otherwise incredibly ordered code can transform a simulation.
