After working on these simulations, I started thinking back to Danielle Feinberg talking about the lighting of the jellyfish scene in Finding Nemo. She mentioned that her boss was particularly impressed and silent when viewing that scene in their review sessions– and then the whole room applauded. I realize now how that sequence would have taken a large team working with lots of detailed decisions to create all of those jellyfish movements and lighting variations working together in one effect.
