Continuing to work with Houdini, I have begun to work with L systems in modeling plant structures. Below are simulations of different branching techniques I have explored. These simulations have helped me familiarize myself with the rules of L systems and how to customize whether the plant has opposite branching or alternate, and then if it continues to branch after one generation.

Effects of Random Noise on L-System

Continuing my work with L systems, I created more complicated simulations. I used L systems and random numbers to test the effects on the structure of a fern leaf. Here I tested the effects of applying a random scale and random seed on the leaf. The first simulation shows how the random scale affects the bend and structure of the leaf greatly. The random scale randomly changes the size of certain parts of the L system. The second simulation shows the effects of the random seed on the leaf. The random seed adds in random rules, affecting the structure.
