As part of my capstone, I will also be reviewing recent well-known and awarded examples of science visualization to gain a sense of the field. I will be looking for different examples of graphic presentations and technology utilized by the scientists and artists. Eleanor Lutz is the head of print design and the New York Times and makes infographics. She tends to take a more artistic route to demonstrate a concept. In one example, she demonstrated how Californian plants have adapted to wildfires by crafting paper replicas and then setting them on fire. I would argue the most obvious success of her visualizations is their aesthetic value. She packs large amounts of data into small spaces, while making their design intentional and streamlined. The next visualization I’ve included is a graphic of every large object in the solar system. This image is highly packed with information; however, it is displayed in a way where patterns are easily detectable. It is easy to tell where most asteroids congregate.
