I learned several things after a couple of mishaps when filming. I definitely learned the lesson of being prepared and came to understand the limitations of using natural light. I decided that I wanted to film the soccer scene as the sun was setting, in order to avoid any harsh shadows that might obstruct the view of the action or distract the viewer. I also wanted the lovely, golden light of sunset to help set up the expectation that something epic or grand was about to happen and heighten the contrast with the moment that the ball hit the crossbar. I left my house about two hours before the sunset in order to give myself plenty of time to film. However, while hopping the fence to get onto the field, I ripped my shorts in half. Since I was the one starring in the scene, and my shorts would be visible, I had to drive back home, switch my shorts, and drive back to field. Luckily, I made it back in time to still have useable light, but I would have liked to have a little more time to get extra shots.
